28th May 2007 - African Day

A celebration to mark African Day was held at Trafagar Square.  I was asked to accompany the Mayor of Waltham Forest to this occassion.  There we were entertained by the legendary Maryam Makeba with both lectures and songs from her classic selections.

17th May 2007 - Gordon Brown's Acceptance Speech

I was invited to attend the acceptance speech of Gordon Brown (Prime Minister Elect), which took place at Finsbury Square Central London Today (17/05/07).

Below is the moving speech he gave at the venue:-

I am truly humbled that so many of my colleagues have nominated me for the leadership of the Labour Party and I formally accept the nomination, the responsibility it brings, and the opportunity to serve the people of Britain.

I will strive to earn your trust.

To earn your trust in our schools, in our hospitals, in our public services, and to respond to your concerns.

And by listening and learning, I want to become a voice for communities far beyond Westminster, to become a voice for the parent, the patient and the public, whom public services must exist to serve.

When people ask me what I will focus on as Prime Minister:

My passion is education.
My immediate priority is the NHS.
The new challenges: affordable housing;
Building safe, secure and sustainable communities;
And building trust in our democracy.

These are my domestic priorities.
